Hannah Thomas Connection Counts About Me

CONNECTION COUNTS, AND I’M HERE TO SHOW JUST HOW LIFE-CHANGING IT CAN BE.

Connection Counts exists to help schools, care settings, and organisations become truly trauma-responsive places where both children and adults feel safe, supported, and able to flourish.

Hi, I’m Hannah Thomas. For over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege to lead and grow a charity to support children, families, and the professionals who walk alongside them.

My journey has taken me into more than 180 schools,  reaching thousands of children, and equipping staff teams to better understand behaviour, build connection, and create environments where every child can thrive.

I am a well-respected and trusted voice in the trauma and education space, known for delivering meaningful, lasting change across schools, residential care settings, andorganisations. My work has been recognised through awards and training achievements, but at the heart of it, this has never just been a career. It’ s a calling.

My Approach To Connection Informed Support

My approach is deeply influenced by the work of Daniel Siegel and the belief that every child needs to feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure. These are not just nice ideas, they are essential foundations for healthy development, learning, and relationships.

Everything I do is rooted in one core belief: we must look at the root, not just the fruit. Behaviour is communication, and when we get curious instead of reactive, compassionate instead of corrective, everything begins to shift.

This work is also personal to me. I bring my own lived experience of trauma into the spaces I work in, not as something that defines me, but as something that has shaped my deep empathy and understanding. I have learned how to turn pain into purpose, and that journey allows me to connect with others in a way that is real, human, and full of hope.  I lead with heart. I stay  curious. I champion compassion. And I believe that connection changes everything.

How I Can Help You:

Through training, consultancy, and ongoing support, I help you build environments where connection comes first, and everything else flows from there.

This isn’t about quick fixes or behaviour management strategies.

It’s about a whole-culture shift, from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What’s happened to you?” and “What do you need right now?”

For Schools & Education Leaders

I support schools to move beyond behaviour policies and into connection-led practice.

Together, we:

Understand behaviour as communication

Equip staff to become

“behaviour detectives”

Build emotionally safe classrooms

Reduce exclusions, burnout, and overwhelm

Create a shared, consistent trauma-responsive approach

What trauma-responsive looks like in your school:

Staff respond with curiosity, not judgment

Children feel safe enough to learn

Relationships are prioritised over rules

Regulation is supported, not demanded

Every child feels seen, heard, and valued

For Residential Care & Children’s Homes

I work with care teams to create environments where healing can truly happen.

Together, we:

Explore attachment, trauma, and the nervous system

Strengthen relationships between staff and young people

Support teams to respond, not react

Reduce incidents and increase emotional safety

Build confident, reflective, and connected staff teams

What trauma-responsive looks like in your setting:

Young people feel safe, soothed, and secure

Staff understand triggers and respond with empathy

Consistency replaces chaos

Relationships become the foundation for change

Healing is prioritised, not just managing behaviour

For Organisations & Leadership Teams

I help organisations embed trauma-responsive practice into their culture, not just their training.

Together, we:

Develop trauma-informed leadership

Support staff wellbeing and reduce burnout

Create aligned values and approaches

Build psychologically safe teams

Implement sustainable, long-term change

What trauma-responsive looks like in your organisation:

Staff feel safe, supported, and valued

Leaders model compassion and curiosity

Difficult behaviour is understood, not punished

Teams communicate openly and honestly

Wellbeing and connection are prioritised at every level

The Heart Of My Work

At the centre of everything I do is this:

People don’t need fixing, they need understanding.

When we lead with curiosity, compassion, and connection, we don’t just change behaviour… we change lives.
